SM Bus controller, drivers not installed or SM Bus controller not connected?

$

Hey everybody

I would like to hear your opinion about this if anyone could help me.

I already tried installing drivers, please read my entire post.

-SM Bus controller. The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

-Unable to turnOff touchpad (touchpad itself works but cannot turn it of)

Operating system+Hardware+ Drivers

-Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1

-64 Bit

-DELL Latitude 3540

-Chip Type: Intel® HD Graphics family

Problem

Problem with Laptop from my job:

Unable to turn touchpad off.

-press Fn + F3 doesnt work

-Cannot find the touchpad in my controlPanel->hardware and devices, so manually turning of does also not work.

-Rest appears to be working Fine!

Problem Since

Problem occured since:

Laptop was upgraded by my boss with following actions

-Harddisk was replaced by flashMemory (laptop has been opened up thus..)

-Disk was encrypted with DiskCryptor and operating system + all drivers reinstalled.

Actions I took

Upgrading chipset drivers from Intell

-Tried it automaticly over Windows 7 controlPanel-> devices->update drivers.

Result: cannot find driver.

-Than tried it manually http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/8C82RZ1/drivers?s=BSD

->Change operating system to windows 7 64 BIT

->Under chipset.

-> Manually updated driver: Chipset_Driver_Intel_USB3_A01_W732W764-SETUP_ZPE

Of course restarted the computer.

After this nothing really changed.

Control Panel is Still saying:

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

Also:

SM BUS controller:

Device type: Other devices

Manufactere: Unknown

Location: PCI bus 0, device 31, function 3

What do you think is the Problem?

I am no computer genius, but is it possible that the problem is not the BUS driver?

Maybe a cable to the BUS controller is not connected or something?

Isnt it weird that all the other Fn+F1,2,4,5,8,9 things like turning on/off wifi, volume are all working?

Should I rather try installing all drivers from start? Or ask my boss to open up the laptop.

Please let me hear your opinion or redirect me to another Forum

Kind regards

Tom de Boer

No Acceleration with RST, Problem found

Hello everybody,

during the last days, I tracked down the reason why my new Dell Inspiron 7520 with an Intel® SSD 311 Series

(20GB, mSATA 3Gb/s, 34nm, SLC) did not accelerate how it should; I documente it here :

BIOS-Information :

I tried the last three versions of RST iata_cd-11.2.0.1006, iata_cd-11.6.0.1030 and iata_cd-11.7.0.1013 - always the same: no acceleration. I reinstalled different NET-Frameworks and tried so many things that I can't count everything here. But I had once a working set, more by accident than by knowledge ... So there might be a bug!

Before I started with a preconfigured MBR-parition of one Windows 7, one Linux and one NTFS-data-partition - done with fdisk under Ubuntu.

Then I restarted a new Windows 7 reinstallation with only one simple NTFS-partition. And voilá: the RST acceleration did work !!!

A second Linux Ubuntu partition - all paritions are primary - did not caused the misfunction, but the third partition, the second NTFS-data-partition was the reason.

Dear Intel developers of RST, please try it with 3 primary partitions, 1st Windows 7, 2nd Linux and 3rd a NTFS-partition and improve your software - I suggest that a lot of people are struggling with this Bug. It did cost so much time to track that down. Thank you.

Problem re-setting up Rapid Storage Technology Driver based RAID 1 volume

$

I have a test & development PC running Windows 7 64-bit PRO using an Asus m/b featuring Intel chipsets and CPU.

I boot from a 128G SSD.  And use two 2T drives in RAID 1 mode for my development projects (and a few games).  I did have to add a GE Force graphics card to make my games happy....  But that is not relevant.

Something went "very wrong" with my RAID 1 volume.  And since I had re-mapped my user folders to it from the SSD boot drive, Windows was not happy.  Lots of errors. Lots of file/folder structure errors.  Windows forced me to run a boot checkdisk, that found lots of problems, but before finishing the repair Checkdisk would crash and force a reboot!  And try to fix the drive again.

i may have accelerated the crash by updating BIOS and not realising the default SATA setting is IDE not AHCI.

I switched to my backup "admin" account - not mapped from the SSD.  Was able to get into windows without error, and could see my RAID drives as seperate disks.

I backed up my data to a NAS.

Now when I run the RST driver installer it completes without error.  Re-activates my RAID 1 storage.  But in the management screen I cannot access the Volume information (its not even listed).

It just shows all the physical drives, and what SATA jack they are in:

1 SSD

2 DVD1

3 Seagate 2T

4 WD 2T

5 DVD2

6 spare (goes to eSata jack on the case)

My DVDs used to be connected through a PCI card (Vantec UGT-ST622).  I decided that was silly to use with so many spare SATA jacks on the m/b so I moved the two DVDs onto m/b jacks.

But I am wondering now if having the optical drives on the m/b jacks is preventing the RST control panel from working properly?

I have not found any mention anyplace that the jacks must be left un connected for the RST driver to work.  Is this an issue?

Thanks in Advance!

Rich.

Getting my RAID array back

$

I have a PC with an ASUS P8H67-=M PRO motherboard, i5, H67 chipset, and only one add-on board, an ASUS WiFi card. I believe the PC was built in 2011.   I have one standard drive for Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, with latest updates, and three 1 TB drives organized as RAID 5, using Intel RST.

Thinking it was routine maintenance. I updated my BIOS from the original ASUS Ver. 1003 to the latest, Ver. 3904, using ASUS AI Suite II Update (their Windows System Control Dashboard).  When I rebooted, the ASUS Update asked me to install the BIOS again using Update. Seemed a little unusual, but I figured it was some kind of bootstrapping problem and went ahead.  When I did that, ASUS Update automatically installed all new drivers, including the three drives of the RAID array.  Now Windows sees them as three individual drives and does not recognize the formatting. I tried Windows restore to a date before today, but it did not change the BIOS or Drive configuration.

Rather than poking in the dark and making things worse, I'd like to ask the community to please advise what I can do to get my RAID array and its data back.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology - Unknown Error - Unable to reinstall/uninstall/run

Hi,

I have the latest Intel RST and it was running just fine until couple days ago. I see the icon on notification area and it says service is not running. When I try to open RST, I receive an error with message "An unknown error occurred while running this application. If the problem persists, please restart your computer or try reinstalling the application."

So I restarted and nothing changed. I tried reinstalling and I got this: "The setup program ended prematurely because if the following error: Fatal error during installation."

When I try to uninstall, I get the same error.

I booted into safe mode, activated "Windows Installer Service" and tried reinstalling/uninstalling again and it does not work. Same error. Disabling Kaspersky antivirus doesn't change anything.

So I can't fix it, can't run it, can't uninstall it.

Does anyone know what I could try to make it work again? Am I missing something?

Log files are attached.

Thanks,

What do verification errors mean in RAID 1 (mirrored) ?

$

Every time I run the Verification it finds "verification errors".  (128, 77, 26 the last three times out)

I have 2 300 GB (10,000 RPM) drives set up as RAID 1.

Given that there is no parity, what do these "verification errors" mean?

Is one of my drives beginning to fail?

How can I troubleshoot this further?

P.S. The general answer for this should be included in the standard Help for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application.

Trying to add 3TB second drive

I'm trying to upgrade my Dell Vostro 430 with a second drive Seagate Barracuda 3TB ST3000DM001 drive.  It is currently showing only about 746 gig.

I looked around the Seagate site and apparently I need to update my Intel(R) 5 Series/3400 Series SATA AHCI Controller driver.  It is currently 9.6.0.1014 from Mar 3/10 but from what I read on Seagate's site, I need at least 10.1 but cannot find it here.

When I followed the directions from the Seagate site to Intel's site, I only found information relating to RAID drivers, not regular SATA drives.  Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out which drivers I need to download and install?

I did install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology utility but it's Manage button only allows me to see information.  The drive is listed and indicates 2862 GB but under Win7ProSP1 Computer Management the drive is currently only 746 GB.

All help is appreciated.  TIA, rasinc

C600 chipset & v2, E5-26XX, 10\12 core processors

I am trying to find out if the 'new' v2, E5-26XX, 10 & 12 core processors will work in any of the 'C6XX' chipsets?  Neither Intel nor HP have updated their spec\system spec sheets respectively, to show what is compatible\upgradable?

For anyone who's interested, my Z820 currently has a 6 core E5-2630 and the C602 chipset.  I asked HP support and all they did was email me the PDF spec sheet for my system when I bought it and obviously, the v2 processors aren't listed.  However, when I check their current Z820 offerings, they have the 10 & 12 core CPUs' available, and, oddly enough, upon further investigation, they run the same BIOS as my system?

Or, is it a chipset issue?  ie you need C604, 606 to use the new processors?

Thanks for any insight,

Chazz

AMT with KVM, will it work with all compatibel chipsets/CPUs

I want to use Intel Vpro/AMT/KVM to remotely manage my computer. So my question is, if I buy a motherboard with C226 (lets say a Asus P9D WS), and a Xeon E3 with inbuilt graphics, will AMT/KVM work regardless of the motherboard, or does the motherboard have to implement anything in addition to the c226-chipset?

Intel RST driver "iaStorA.sys" keeps on failing on wake up to BSOD

$

Hi guys, ive been having a problem that has stumped me and most of the tech support places I go so any help would be awesome.

So basically I had to replace my hard drive that failed recently and that went over fine, even got the same model of drive to use. A seagate hybrid drive that I guess is also AF (advanced format). So I went right ahead to install windows 8 back onto this computer of mine when I ran into my first problem of windows not being able to find my drive even though my bios said it was their. To fix this I downloaded my computers chipset and intel RST drivers to communicate to the hard drive and put it on my installation usb to use in the installation process. Trying to install windows again, I ran into the same problem but this time I loaded the intel drivers and it found my hard drive and installed windows without a hitch.

Now everything seems to be going fine with this computer except for after it wakes up from sleep mode it goes to a BSOD saying that iastorA.sys has failed every time without a doubt.

I am clueless on how to fix this problem and have researched it for days on end to no avail. I tried checking if the computer thinks if its in RAID which it cant even do with one hard drive port. I have tried many other things that arn't coming to mind right now because its late and I cant think. If any one can help me out that would be awesome.

Intel Rapid Start & Smart Response minimum SSD requirements

$

0

Hi,

I just have a few questions regarding the two technologies mentioned and the minimum SSD size required to run each one on a system. A bit of background, I bought a Dell XPS 15 (9530) recently and it is advertised to run both Intel technologies together. It comes with a 1TB HDD and 32GB SSD to act as cache.

I have read all of Intel's literature on the two techs and it states that Intel Smart Response requires a minimum of 18.6GB to run and also that Intel Rapid Start requires a minimum amount of SSD space equal to the amount of RAM. The Dell system comes with 16GB of RAM. So in total to run both technologies together on this system I would need an SSD with a minimum of 34.6GB. Dell partition the SSD with 8GB for for the Rapid Start partition and 22GB for the Smart Response partition.

I have contacted Dell to clarify this as the system does not start very quick when resuming making me think the Rapid start feature is not working due to the partition only being half the size of the amount of RAM. The response I got was:

"HDD + 32GB mSATA config can support both Intel Rapid Start and Intel Smart Response.  After the iRST driver ver 12.7, it needs min 12GB cache area.   Smart Response does not require dedicated cache just for itself. Also Intel Rapid Start requires only 8GB. It does not have to be the same amount of main memory. Thus 32GB is enough to support both function."

I looked up the release notes for the iRST release which contains the 12.7 orom (Intel Matrix Storage Technology) and it states at point 4 that "

4.    Support for 16GB minimum cache requirement for SRT “Dual Drive SSD cache” will not be enabled in the RST 12.8 release and is targeted for RST 13.0 release", which is not even out yet.

So is Dell telling me the truth? Do these two techs run on the minimum specs Dell have provided or do they need the minimum specs that Intel specifies to work properly. i.e. According to Dell it is 20GB minimum for both and Intel states 34.6GB. I'm chasing this up as the performance falls a bit short for a laptop that cost AU$2500 and I want to be sure it is not a OEM set up flaw.

Thank you everyone for your help.

Rapid Start Technology Troubles with Lenovo W540

Hi,

I got IRST working for a couple of weeks where the timer would kick off immediately after I close the laptop lid. However, lately, the feature is not working anymore. What happens now is whenever I close the lid, the laptop goes into normal sleep and the IRST timer never kicks in. When I wake up the laptop, I find that the irst service is turned off.

This behavior repeats on and on. I have the latest version of both rapid start (3.0.0.1053) and storage technologies (12.9.0.1001)

your help is greatly appreciated....

Intel RST stopped working, now shows wrong SSD size

I have a Dell Inspiron with a 1TB main hard drive and a 30GB SSD drive.  I've had Intel RST acceleration enabled for months now with no problem, but today, for no apparent reason, I got an error when I booted up my computer.  I tried disabling and re-enabling acceleration.  This caused the whole laptop to freeze, and caused problems booting up.

Long story short, I've got the system working again, BUT Intel RST now shows that the SSD drive is only 1GB instead of 30GB, and there is no longer an option to enable acceleration anymore.  Something has clearly gone wrong but I don't know what, or what to do.  Any help would be appreciated!

Why does \intel smart connect/intel rapid start\ immediately resume from sleep after transitioning to S4 mode erratically

Immediately after sleep state transitions to S4 my PC resumes from S4 mode right away successfully resuming from sleep mode to the lock screen. I only have one clue that helps me isolate what the cause is being in the log of intel smart connect indicating the previous wake event was OS initiated.

  • Occasionally the sleep function performs pertinently.

Intel Management Engine Driver Won't Install

I have an Asus X79-Deluxe motherboard with an i7-4930 processor and of course an X79 chipset.

The drivers for the chipset install without issues but the MEI drivers will not install.   I get a message that the computer does not meet the minimum requirements for the software.    In the Bios there is a listing for ME but it says N/A.   I don't see any options in the bios to activate or in anyway configure ME.   I assume ME is the Management Engine and that either there is a bad chip or firmware which causes the issue with not being able to install the drivers.    Is there a way to fix this problem or at least confirm if it is a hardware or software issue??

Hi, I have a new Z87 motherboard (ASUS Maximus VI Extreme) that POSTs fine, sees all drives, RAM, etc., but I cannot install Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on the SSD I'm using (Samsung 840 Pro) without it giving the infamous 0x8007045D error.  Are there any known issues with Intel Z87 and Samsung drives/SATA3?

Thank you in advance!

Intel RST broke my boot time, help

Hi, it all started with a Win 7 displaying false warnings about the copy being not Genuine. I found the fix was to instal the IRST - worse decision by far.

After IRST installation (through the utility) the boot time went from 20sec to 90sec... it hangs on the Windows screen for 60sec....

I found that removing this utility with its drivers (reverting back to Standard AHCI) solved it for some... but the utility is gone, the drivers say they are Standard AHCI drivers in the Device Manager so I don't know what else I can do... event viewer still shows 80-90 sec for boot up time in the ID 100 within Diagnostics tab

I would be glad to reverse it to the state with the false warnings about windows being non genuine ... i just want the machine to boot like normal.. i'm running ssd so this is quite annoying.

Edit: after removing the IRST by uninstalling from Control Panel, Win Genuine warnings came back, but boot time is still 80-90sec

RST 11.0.0.1032 not offering Raid 5 option, help please...

I have a dell Studio 435t/9000 with the ICH10R chipset (report below, don't worry about it's current status, I'm running a verification at the moment to see if that may be my problem).

Anyway....I recently increased the size of my raid 1 array from Samsung 500Gb to WD 1TB. To do this, I first upgraded from the Intel Matrix Storage 8.x to RST-(details below). I formatted 3 new drives as I wanted to go to Raid 5. I pulled one old drive out, mirrored a new drive to that, then then replaced the other along with added the third new drive. At this point, I reset the disks to non-raid in the bio to see if I could set it up as raid 5 in the bios and mirror/stripe from the new drive over to both the other new ones. It only allowed me to create a Raid 1 or 0 in the bios, so I went with raid 1 thinking I could convert through windows RST to raid 5 later. At this point I had the new larger Raid 1 array working perfectly with the third new drive still on its own. (The configuration you see below). However now, windows RST won't give me the option to convert to anything other than Raid 0. Any tricks I need to know? Could it be my orom version is too old for Raid 5? Thank you for any help...
