Rapid storage technology won't rebuild to larger WD drive

$

I've spent over a 40 hours on this. I need to increase the size of my raid 1 array. I bought 2 WD 1TB drives to replace my 500Gb on a dell studio 435t. I first rebuilt the system on the new drives following the Intel instructions on increasing the array size using the old Intel Matrix storage 8.5 but had windows errors--  loss of desktop search, windows update wouldn't work etc. I found out that had to do with my new drives being Advanced Format drives. I couldn't fix the windows errors on the new mirror, so I started again, and reinstalled the old drives. I then applied the necessary hot fixes to my old smaller array and downloaded the newest raid control software, Intel Rapid Storage. 9.6 all which was said to fix the windows errors the next time around. Then I tried the rebuild again.....this time...

No matter what I do, Intel RST won't rebuild from the old drive to the new one. After many attempts, it rebuilds just fine btw the two older drives, but when I swap one of those with the new larger WD drive, I just get an error: ("An unknown error occurred while an operation was in progress the operation could not be completed"). I even cloned the drive using Norton Ghost, but then the problem is that RST won't create the mirror on to the second drive, it says "An unknown error occurred during the volume creation process".

PLEASE HELP!!!

Intel Lynx Point-LP (Latitude E5440) USB3 issue with external USB3 enclosures

Hi, I got an issue with a Dell Latitude E5440 using Intel Lynx Point-LP and it's USB3 ports when connecting to external enclosures which use the ARM MB86C301B chip (did not find more info from examining the board).

Using the latest laptop bios and latest Intel USB3 driver, Windows 7 64 bit.

Tested: Copy a file to external hard drive with ARM MB86C301B using USB3 ports

Result: Copy fails, copy starts and almost reaches the end but then it never finishes, drive is then not visible in Windows Storage Manager. New programs cannot be launched

Tested: Copy a file to external hard drive with ARM MB86C301B using USB2 port

Result: Works

Tested: Copy a file to external hard  drive with ARM MB86C301B using USB3 ports on another computer running Win 7 64 bit, previous gen Intel CPU

Result: Works

This leads me to believe there is an incompatibility issue with this chipset and current drivers or firmware on my E5440. Any suggestions for debugging, bug report, possible fix?

How can I trigger that the 64bit-version of the iRST-SW is being installed?

The "readme" explains that it is important to choose the 64bit version of the iRS-driver/ software package when working with a 64bit OS. Unfortunately it doesn't mention how to do so (and I'm the classical DUMMY).

It irritates me that my 64bit win 8.1 OS is not being identified by the installation routine. Instead the setupRST.exe is allways proposing to install to a new iRST-directory in the 32bit-path, although a previous 64bit version exists in the x(86)-branch (unfortunately this iRST is not working anymore since I had the last update to win 8.1). Is it sufficient to change the path for the software update when using the "setupRST.exe" (version 12.9.0.1001) to ensure that the 64bit driver is being installed? Or are there any parameters that must be added to ensure this? it

Thanks in advance!

Can I uninstall Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

Hi, I'm using Windows 8.1 x64. My laptop is a Lenovo Y510P with 1TB HDD and a SSD of 24GB in the M.2 NGFF interface for caching. Since my laptop uses Expresscache to manage the SSD, and not IRST...

Do I need to still have installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

If not, I'd like to uninstall it. I just wanna make sure that IRST is not needed if Expresscache is the software that controls the cache thing and the SSD.

Thanks!

I am Professional HD Graphics Driver Quebec 1.1 x86 / build 7.86.10.1000 lover.I used to run this driver one day ago and then I installed a driver from Intel to run bluestacks...now I don't wanna run bluestacks. So, I uninstalled Intel's driver and when I tried to install my favorite Driver Quebec its showing the error "An error occurred while registering one or more components." . I've tried restarting, disabling anti virus, deleting display adapter in device manager and then scanning for hardware change....Others are working perfectly like Royal BNA ran perfectly but Quebec is not even installing. Quebec driver that I love increases my FPS in CS 1.6.http://i.imgur.com/7Ont9Vd.pnghttp://i.imgur.com/NtrI201.png

Any help will really be appreciated... I am ready to clean your shoes if you will fix this

How do I increase the size of the hibernation partition?

$

Intel Rapid Start is installed on a ThinkPad I have. RST uses a hibernation partition (HP) that is sized at a minimum the amount of RAM. Lenovo configured mine at 8GB. I installed 16B of better stuff when I got the device. Now I want to follow the Intel spec on partition size.

In Disk Management under Windows 7, that partition is static and there aren't any options for changing it.  I can shrink C: by an additional 8GB, but it just goes to unallocated space and I can't see a way to add it to the HP.

I tried imaging the drive using Macrium, and went to restore the image and to monkey with the partition sizes there, but, like in Windows, that HB won't budge.

What's the trick?

Can't install Intel Management Engine Interface?

I recently uninstalled it because it wasn't working in hopes of reinstalling it, but then as I go to reinstall, I got the error, your computer does not meet the minimum requirements. I made sure the file was compatible with my computer, I have Windows 8 64 Bit and a Dell XPS 8700, as well as an Intel Core i7 4770. I still have the files in my drivers folder, but when I tried to reinstall from there I got the same error.

iaStorA: Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued.

During a "Verify and Repair" of a RAID5 on my ASUS H87i-PLUS i've noticed a lot of these warnings in my Event Viewer...

They are Warnings - so i'm wondering if i should be concerned ?

Some people say that such error is caused by LPM (Link Power Management) in the PCI-Express / SATA interface

And that the error / warning COULD result in performance degradation of SSD's and other devices.

I've tried disabling LPM through Windows Power Management and in Intel RST

I've also tried disabling LPM through Regedit using a couple of DWORDS....

but the warnings still appear...

The errors occured while Intel RST was verifying and about once pr minute in some cases - and are rare otherwise...

Help - Intel Rapid storage Accelerate missing

Hi all,

I have been racking my brain for the last 3 days with this problem. I have googled much and tried even more, now I give up in hope that some of you guys will be able to help me out.

Here is my disk setup. As you can see it has several partitions, the selected one is the SSD disc (disk 1).

http://i57.tinypic.com/2z7qsf6.jpg

In Intel Rapid Storage there is no Accelerate button as you can see in the following picture.

http://oi58.tinypic.com/bgsi9g.jpg

So far I have tried the following:

- Shrinking disk for 100MB

- Removing unused partitions (read somewhere that 4 partitons is max)

- Formatted SSD drive in all ways possible

- Initialized SSD drive as MBR

Now I have no idea what to do next, please someone give me an idea what to do. After reinstalling windows I did not touch any setting in BIOS. I only disabled acceleration in IRS and made the disk available. Then reinstalled Windows (all drivers are present, no exclamation marks in device management) and that's all. No Accelerate button..

Weird Intel RAID problem

Here's the specs:

Processor: Intel i7 875k

Motherboard: MSI P55-GD80

Memory: Corsair Dominator 4x2GB (forget exact model, 1600mhz I believe, though)

Graphics: Diamond AMD HD5870 1GB

PSU: Antec TruePower Blue 750watt

HDD: 4xWD black 500GB (WDC WD5001AALS-0) drives in raid 10(0+1 so says bios) mode

Sound: On-board Realtek

NIC: On-board Marvell

DVD: Cheap Lite-On thingy, connected via sata

I've spent a couple days trying to figure out what part went bad. At the bottom I'll list my entire debug procedure, but I'll get to the meat of the problem here. Rebooted this machine on sunday to find it took over an hour to boot up, no warnings in the logs about anything failing before hand, no updates, software, or drivers installed anytime recently. My testing actually shows that it seems to be the raid chip that’s gone slightly bad as well as windows drivers are failing on this hardware piece. I've run this machine from MiniXP, WinPE, Win7 Recovery Disc, ESET Recovery Disc. All have the same problem regardless of the raid driver I use- extremely slow access times and slow read speed. I decided to try a Linux distro, Knoppix, and, lo and behold, the drives run just like they're supposed to. Have a look-

Windows MiniXP and HD Tune 2.55

http://s29.postimg.org/3xrbepvfb/hdtune.png

On this one I’m not sure why it’s reading both volumes as 1, but it's neither here nor there, as all windows kernel boots were the same speed, and the drives were accessible from windows explorer as separate, so the speed’s the important bit in that pic.

And Knoppix palimpsest

http://s9.postimg.org/ezoqocr1r/linux_hdd_test.png

Now I can only figure the raid chip did die, at least a little, but somehow the Linux drivers are bypassing whatever function did fail. I may have missed something, but I'm unsure what, and I'd love some feedback to figuring this one out.

The motherboard is literally 6 months out of warranty so RMA is out of the question. I don't know much about compiling my own drivers, so this kind of problem is quite beyond me. I'd love to save the board since I wasn't quite ready for an upgrade yet.

And the boring part, my testing:

First reboot, ran SpyBot, nothing wrong, antivirus timed out and would not load because drive access was too slow

Made an ESET antivirus rescue disk, which runs from WinPE, set it to scan, cancelled after 19 hours and only about 20% of the drive scanned, no errors.

Swapped sata cables, no change, swapped ports, no change, SMART scan, no problems.

Fiddled bios settings a bunch, no difference

Did a BIOS update from 1.0a to 1.0c, no change

Made a Knoppix USB flash drive, found that a 51.5gb transfer was taking near the normal amount of time. Installed bit defender, scanned full drive, nothing suspicious.

Made a MiniXP flash, retested the drive, still snail slow on a windows kernel. Ran HD Tune 2.55, recorded results, then loaded back up Knoppix for palimpsest, and recorded those.

Additional info:

I have also tried with and without the DVD drive in when I was swapping ports

Drivers I’ve tried: MSI: 8.9.0.1023; 12.0.0.49974

                         Intel: 12.9.0.1001; 8.9.0.1023; 12.0.0.49974; 10.1.0.1008

Expand RAID 10 ICH10R

$

Using a SuperMicro X8SIE with BIOS 1.0c. Currently have 4x 1TB drives configured in a RAID 10. Looking to expand it.

Currently the disks are setup as an MBR, if I convert to GPT will the Intel controller still be able to read the RAID configuration?

If so, can I slowly replace the 1TB drives with 4TB drives and then expand the capacity? Or am I looking at a full RAID rebuild / data migration?

Thanks!

Intel RST driver blocks eDrive?

What to do about "Blocks with media errors"

$

I have a RAID5 with 4x 3TB WD RED drives, on a ASUS H87i-PLUS using the Intel RST RAID options

I recently encountered two power failures because of broken powerlines. After this event the RAID has been "Verified and Repaired" where it found 10 errors and repaired all 10 errors.

After this i now have 5320 Blocks with Media Errors

so my question is, what should i do about it ?

I've run Windows CheckDisk which came back empty handed - no errors..

I've now clicked on Verify again, with the option "Repair automatically" checked... (i remember doing that the last time too??)

thanksi

SSD Win 7 64 bit Matrix Storage Driver stops Win Updates & IE11 from downloading?

Hi all,

Specs first as these will probably be useful:

Custom built Gaming PC: Corsair 750d case (5x 140mm fans for cooling), Antec HCP-850w PSU, Asus P6T motherboard, Intel i7 920 CPU @ 4GHz with Thermalright Archon SB-E X2 CPU cooler, 6GB OCZ PC3-12800 RAM, EVGA GTX760 Superclocked w/ EVGA ACX Cooler graphics, SONY DVD RW DRU-190S, Seagate 600 series 480GB SSD, Western Digital Blue 500GB SATAII hdd, Seagate 2TB Barracuda SATAIII. PCIe USB 3.0 4 port addon card.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

I've recently just upgraded to SSD and Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.

After changing the BIOS SATA from IDE to AHCI, I unplugged all other storage drives and had only the Seagate SSD connected.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed perfectly fine, including SP1 (downloaded offline installer).

I then installed AVAST free and updated windows with no issues.

After updating I applied all the usual drivers:

1. Intel INF Chipset v9.2.0.1030

2. nVidia GeForce 335.23

3. NIC Realtek v7.080.0218.2014

4. Audio Realtek High Definition Audio System Software Ver: R2.25 (downloaded from another Asus motherboard section for up to date driver)

5. Renesas Electronics uPD720201 USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver Kit (x86 and x64) Win 7 v3.0.23.

6. Intel Matrix Storage Manager original tried up to date v8.9.0.1023, then tried Asus web site Beta Version8.9.0.1014.

7. JMicron JMB36X Controller Driver v1.17.62.0.

I then installed MS Office, tried to download the Service Pack through Internet Explorer 11 to discover I wasn't able to ... the "Save" button seem to just click and nothing happened. I couldn't even click "Run" or "Save As" options either. So I tried to download Firefox with again no luck with the same issues.

So I though ok that's a little strange so I'll try windows update ... which stated "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I restarted to be given the same message. I checked the services and the service was running!

In the end after 4 hours I rolled back using system restore and found it to be the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver causing both issues. I tried the driver from the Asus web site instead but that is still giving the same result.

2 questions:

1) Do I need Intel Matrix Storage Driver installed? If not I'll leave it uninstalled. If yes then ...

2) What should I do to try to resolve this issue? ... and ... which version of the driver should I use?

Thanks in advance for any help on this one as it has me really baffled,

Pete

Preparing New SATA HDD - Taking Too Long?

$

I have a Dell Inspiron 7737, which has the 256 Gb SSD as its hard drive. I have replaced the optical bay with a 750 Gb HDD, as 256 Gb is not nearly enough storage on a modern laptop. It uses Rapid Storage Technology.

When I first went into Disk Management on Windows, it obviously saw the hardware as it told me it needed to initialise it before it could be used. So I went ahead and let it do that - and the drive promptly disappeared. A refresh, rescan and reboot later, and nothing had changed. The BIOS knew it was there, but Windows did not. On top of that, my machine had slowed down noticeably, with System Interrupts now taking 10% of CPU time.

I took the obvious step of going to forums to start asking for help - I tried a Windows 8 forum and a notebook / hard drive forum.

Turns out the problem was simply that it was taking forever to 'initialise' the drive. This had been started around 4 pm, and finally when I came to the laptop at 8 am this morning, the system (Rapid Storage, I think) announced it detected a drive on SATA port 1. Since I don't know what exactly the system needs to do to initialise the drive, I accepted that that was simply one of those things.

Now that it was showing in Disk Management again, I went to add a simple volume, which obviously includes the format; the drive promptly disappeared again. Four hours later, I'm still waiting. My machine is now barely usable because that process is hogging 25% of CPU time, and can't be lowered in priority. Apart from that CPU time in Task Manager neither Windows nor Rapid Storage is giving me any feedback whatsoever on what it is doing - Rapid Storage actually says port 1 is empty again.

All the articles I have read after Googling suggest it should not take this long to format a 750 Gb drive!

I do have a bunch of chipset updates to make (I didn't know they wouldn't be given as part of Windows update), but unfortunately I had already started the process before I found those. But even with slightly outdated chipset drivers... should it really take that long?

Any way I can get any feedback on what it is doing?

ssd cache drive problem/blue screen clock_watchdog error

Hello, I'm hoping someone on here can help me with my dilemma. A few days ago I got the blue screen on my pc that said Your PC ran into a problem that it couldn't handle, and now it needs to restart. You can search for the error online clock_watchdog_timeout. The blue screen did not go away so I did a hard shut down. Everything appeared fine when I logged back on. After reading a little about this error I decided to restore my bios settings to their defaults (even though I never changed anything on them). Once I did this the computer would not boot up at all to windows, all I kept getting was the same blue screen. The PC went into some sort of repare mode where it gave me some start up options. I tried to choose system restore, system recovery, pc reset, etc and nothing worked. I got a message regarding my hard drive partition or something to that effect (can't remember exactly). I then went back into my bios and on the boot tab I went down to Hard Disk Drivers and I changed the 1st Boot Device from Windows Boot Manager to UEFI OS. When the computer restarted I still got the same blue screen and it once again when into the start up options and I selected PC reset and this worked. But now the Sata SSD does not appear to be working properly at least according to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Software.  The SSD drive is apparantly only used for caching to improve system performace. On the Intel Rapid software it's STATUS is incompatable. I did call Dell and was on the phone for at least 2 hours and they were not able to fix this and basically told me as long as the computer appears to be working fine I should just ignore the error.  I have the Dell XPS 8700. Processor: 4thGen Intel® Core™ i7-4770 Display: Memory (RAM): 16GBDDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz Storage (hard drive): 2TB SATA,7200 RPM + 32GB SSD Optical Drive: 16xDVD+/-RW Drive Color: Black Dell P/N: X8700-4382BLK. Sorry for the long post.  Hopefully someone can help me.

Expanded Raid 5 with RST but previous size still showing in WIndows Explorer

$

I previously had 4 3TB harddrives in a Raid 5 on my ASRock Z87 mb but I had an extra 3TB hard drive so I decided to add it to the array.  I installed it and expanded the Raid inside the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application and after a few days of migrating it seemed to be all good.  Intel RST shows the array as having 5 drives and reports the size I'd expect, but the previous size of the 4-disk array continues to be displayed inside Windows Explorer (I'm on Windows 7).

Any ideas how to get Windows explorer to display the new, actual size of the array?  Did I miss a step?
