Error 0x80070643 installing Chipset Device Software

I am trying to install the Intel Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility) on a PC with Windows 10 64-bit Enterprise Edition.  This PC is configured with the DoD Secure Host Baseline.

The installation fails and shows me an error message saying "Unknown error".

When I examine the installation log, I find a line that says:

Error 0x80070643: Failed to install MSI package.

The chip for which I'm trying to install this driver is an SL-4U-SBC Q77.

I went to the Intel Communities support site and tried to post a question there, but when I clicked on the "Ask a question" button, nothing happened.  I also can't make sense of the Intel technical support website.  No matter what I click on, I get sent in circles.  I can't find a page that will let me e-mail or call someone or open a support ticket.

Can someone help?

Chipset driver confusion

Hello,

I have a rock solid system based on Win7x64 and in view of the recent meltdown/spectre threats I  have been actively looking for patches and solutions.

I also took this opportunity to update any old driver in my system.

My chipset is identified as "Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series". Its driver seems to be outdated (03/18/2011). The Intel® Driver & Support Assistant does not find any updated driver for it.

I searched manually and found this file Download Intel® Chipset Device Software (INF Update Utility)  but I'm confused as to whether it is ok to use it or not.

I am hesitant to proceed because of the assistant reporting that there are no updates.

Can I safely install the newer inf myself?

Many thanks

oldest supported Linux Kernel on C622 and C422 chipset

Hello!

I wonder if you would know which is the oldest supported Linux kernel on the C622 and C422 kernels?

I am unable to find this info in the datasheets nor the drivers download page and would appreciate your help on this.

Many thanks in advance,

Is Intel's X299 Platform Better than the X99?

New processors and another socket means a new chipset. Intel's X299 Express chipset replaces the venerable and X99 Express Chipset and updates it's HEDT platform to match it's mainstream offerings and then some. This chipset promises to be the most versatile and feature rich Intel has released to date, but is it really an improvement?

Aorus (Gigabyte) Blaming Intel HM97 Chipset for Killing M.2 RAID Drives

$

Hi all,
I've had a Gigabyte Aorus X5 laptop since the end of 2015. This laptop runs the intel "HM97" chipset. Over the past couple of months I've been dealing with Gigabyte support trying to get them to replace the laptop under warranty because it has recently started killing M.2 SSD drives that are installed.

The laptop shipped with two M.2 SSDs configured in RAID 0. When the first one died I didn't think much of it, but payed for shipping back to gigabyte to have the drive swapped as the laptop is still within warranty. They swapped the drives, reconfigured the RAID 0, reinstalled windows 10 and mailed it back to me. However, less than two hours after opening the box and starting the laptop up again, one of the M.2 drives failed again! When I say the drives were killed, I mean they don't even show up in BIOS.

When I sent the laptop back to gigabyte, they were planning on just swapping the drives again and sending it back, however I stopped them and requested the look into why the drives were burning out in the first place instead. The technician apparently contacted their engineering department and was told the following:

"Upon further checking with repair center engineers and the supervisor this is what I got. The laptop chipset will now cause problems when running in raid mode due to intel’s discontinue support for windows 10. After applying new patches it will cause the SSD to read and write on one part of the sector only which will cause system fail in the long run. Intel has notified us to explain that raid is no longer supported. According to the repair center engineer it is recommended to run the laptop in single SSD to avoid additional problems since windows will automatically update to the most up to date patch."

Now, I'm not sure if I need to break it down for you guys or if you can see the red-flags already... But he is claiming an Intel Chipset that is not end-of-life status is causing the problems when running RAID with windows 10 and additionally that intel "discontinue support" for windows 10...

This is a complete fabrication, right? How could intel just write off support for a (relatively) modern chip-set on the current version of windows? When I pressed him for more detail he "checked with HQ" and replied as follows:

"Dear XXXXX,
Also just to inform you that I meant the laptop no longer supports Raid 0 in Windows 10 as Intel discontinues support for the platform on windows 10. It does have support on windows 8.1 which the laptop was shipped with. I will have the HQ and repair center look into possibilities on how it will work and operate in windows 10 with Raid enabled as this is a problem with compatibility with Microsoft and intel due to EOL support."

Whaaat?! So now he's saying intel is supporting the chipset but only on an older operating system? Does any of this make sense to anyone out there, or does it just reek of them trying to get out of replacing the laptop? To be clear, this is not the first issue I've had with the laptop, there's been hardware and software issues since about a month after I bought it.

Has anyone here heard of any compatibility issues with the HM97 (H97M) chipset, RAID, and windows 10 updates?

Hello! I have a problem installing the drivers on my ASUS EeeBook X205TA.

After installing windows 8.1 does not work: sound, keyboard, touchpad.

I need to install the Intel INF Update Driver here from here - ASUS EeeBook X205TA Driver & Tools | Laptops | ASUS Global

But when installing the "Intel INF Update Driver" error appears "the setup program ended prematurely because of the following: [String ID not found]"

What should I do??!

"intel driver & support assistant" does not find any updates available...

Thunderbolt 3 controller does not work correctly with (digital) usb-c headphones

For some reason the thunderbolt 3 usb-c port in my HP Elite X2 G1 Convertable does not work with my new digital usb-c headphones (Xiaomi Piston ANC). When I plug in the headphones to the thunderbolt 3 usb-c port only "Intel(R) USB 3.1 extensible-Hostcontroller-1.10 (Microsoft) shows up in device manager but apart from that nothing happens, no sound no volume control.

I have done some testing to find the problem and found the following:

-The headset works without any problems with all my other (non thunderbolt) usb-c devices (windows and android).

-I got the headset to work in the thunderbolt port with a combination of 2 adapters: I had to plug a usb-c-to-female-usb-a-adapter into the thunderbolt 3 port and into this another usb-a-to-female-usb-c-adapter and into this the headphones. Going from usb-c to usb-a and back to usb-c with all those adapters is hardly an accepatable solution as in makes the headphoes extremely bulky.

-Updating drivers and thunderbolt controller firmware to latest version changed nothing.

Anyone has an idea where the problem is? Maybe the usb-c headset is not recognised correctly based on the resistor values in its usb-c plug (therefore working when having usb-c-to-usb-a and usb-a-to-usb-c adapters inbetween)? But why does it then work with  all the other usb-c controllers? I hope this is not a hardware issue in the thunderbolt 3 controller.

Allen & Heath QU-16 Audio-Distortion - xHCI - Isochronous Transfer Mode

$

Hi,

i have a lot of audio-distortion with the Allen & Heath QU-16 via USB Recording. I'm experiencing very extreme distortions while recording and playback.

The system(s) i use:

Both: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

Thinkpad 13 (2nd Gen 2017):

  • Intel i7-7500u
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 512 GB NVMe SSD

MSI GS70 2PC Stealth (2014):

  • Intel i7-4720 HQ
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 1TB HDD
  • 128 GB SSD

All the drivers are up to date and the device firmware is up to date also.

After some research i found out, that the source of the problems is that the device uses the Isochronous Transfer Mode. This mode seems to be not supported by Intel chipsets (xHCI, USB 3) anymore even when USB 3 is said to be fully backward compatible. If that is the case, it is not. Are there any drivers available to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance for your answers and help.

Best regards,

Jan

Thunderbolt 3 Firmware Version Detection Tool

$

I'm planning the Intel Thunderbolt 3 firmware update from version 12.2.5.3.1 to version 20.2.5.5.1 with approx. 5000 HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2.

The update should be done via SCCM (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager).

In addition, the update should only be carried out on devices that still need the update. To do this it is necessary to identify the already installed firmware version before the update. This would be best done with a tool (Check-Tool or Detection Tool - similar to the "Intel-SA-00086 Detection Tool" - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27150?v=t) that writes the firmware version, registry or WMI.

Is there such a tool for the Intel Thunderbolt 3 firmware update and can you provide it to me?

Or is there another way to identify the Intel Thunderbolt 3 firmware version?

USB 3.0 Keyboard Lock light issues

$

I've been having an issue lately with my keyboard and I think I have narrowed down the cause to Intel's USB 3.0 drivers.

When my keyboard (Corsair K70) is plugged into any USB 3.0 port on my computer (ports are through Z370 chipset), after a short period of time or nearly instant, my num, caps, and scroll lock indicator lights on my keyboard freeze when using those 3 keys. The only way to unfreeze them is by unplugging/plugging back in the keyboard. This issue does not happen on my ASMedia 3.1 ports.

I have seen numerous other forum posts online discussing this issue with many different keyboards and motherboards. I have gotten a replacement keyboard, updated all my drivers, and even reformatted my computer and the issue will not go away.

Info about my PC that may help:

-Gigabyte AORUS Gaming 7 Z370 Motherboard

-Intel 8700k

-Corsair K70 keyboard on latest drivers/firmware

Drivers installed:

Standard USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 1.0 (Microsoft) -- Version 10.0.16299.125

USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) -- Version 10.0.16299.64

Generic USB Hub -- Version 10.0.16299.64

USB Composite Device -- Version 10.0.16299.15

Intel Chipset inf update fails with unable to copy files msg

$

Good Evening.

Have an ASUS G76 ROG laptop that won't wake up/power up after being disconnected from external power.  It is totally off, and pressing the power button does nothing.

This started as a similar problem, but upon reconnecting it to power, it went into a repair mode (don't recall details).  It no longer does that, but restarts cleanly.

This laptop spends most of its time plugged in, and only occasionally forays into the outside world, away from its power lifeline.

Contacted ASUS in November when this first happened, and again today.

They had me "uninstall" something (there was a multi-step process that I don't recall at all) and attempt to "replace" it with the following: Chipset_Intel_Win81_64_VER9401027.zip.

Finally, the chipset question:

I extract the files, and run the setup.exe as Admin in the Command Prompt.  It opens a couple of dialog boxes, but then fails with the message that it was unable to copy files.

Online searches and ASUS tech support has led nowhere for my specific problem..

Anyone know how to resolve this unable to copy files thing, in this particular case?

Thanx
Renata

Are there any intel PCH chipsets that support SMBus slave mode block read and write. I am trying to implement a generic MCTP test platform and so far have not been able to identify a motherboard that can support the master/slave interface requirements of MCTP.

I have installed a clean Windows 10 Microsoft download ISO 1709 Windows creators disk dated 9/27/2017 64 bit version from the official Microsoft website.

I have let Windows complete a clean install on a new disk GPT partition after removing all partitions.

I have initially not connected to the internet and all the drivers from HP 15-N098sa page but encountered a few problems, besides the intel engine management sp62419.exe version 9.5.2.1489 unit not working. so I have tried old versions of the chipset and graphics driver in many combintations.

Start agin another new installation:

I then re did a clean install again using above Windows ISO deleting all partitions created by Windows 10 on startup and allowed it to install the drivers required and updates please see below with Lan connected.

Another note Windows defender reports the problem and tries to fix it

It then reports it cannot identify the problem.

I have gone into the device manager, deleted the Intel engine management unit installed by Windows version 1105. I then then rebooted and allowed the same driver to be installed by checking for updates.

I then deleted the driver and software again reset windows update to stop installed the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver sp66956.exe version9.4.0.1026 Rev.B and the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver sp62419.exe version 9.5.2.1489 and have the same problem. I have also tried Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver 9.52.1709 and various versions of 11 besides the Windows 10 initial installed one of 11.00.1146 including 11.8.50.3426

CPU and chipset information:

Intel Core i5-4200U (1.6 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 cores)

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4600.

Memory 8GB 2  simms

Motherboard passes HP 6.5.0.0 extensive system test no error.

Can anyone please help.
