PCIe not working on Haswell Q85 platform

Hello, I have upgraded to a new haswell Q85 platform and my PCIe-to-PCI Bridge had stopped working, the system can't boot up. My board with the PCIe-to-PCI works just fine with my older Q77 platform.

Is the new Q85 still supporting this bridges? Do I need a special driver?

Thanks.

RAID 10 Drive Set Not Viewable by Win 7 Pro, Can't Load RAID Driver

First, I need to say that I am a complete newbie here and I'll apologize in advance for any blunders.  I'll also greatly appreciate any advice that can get me moving again.  Here is my component list.  It includes some items that I don't think are relevant, but I've found that unexpected relevancy can be an issue in anything.  (I'm a geologist.)

Motherboard:  Asus P6X58D Premium.  (It's for a build I began three years ago and got side tracked on.)

On board are Intel Chipsets with an ICH10R RAID controller.

They are (using the Intel ID program) 6, 5, 4, 3, 900 Series and found to be valid versions.

Bios is American Megatrends 1301 dated 16Nov2010.

The CPU is an Intel Core i7 950 at 3.07 GHz.

RAM is Crucial 12 Gb in three sticks, which shows (for reasons I do not understand) as 13 Gb.

The motherboard contains two 6 Gb/sec SATA ports controlled by a Marvell controller.  Those are not now in use.

The motherboard contains six 3 Gb/sec SATA ports controlled by the Intel ICH10R controller, configured this way:

0=Seagate Barracuda 64 mb cache (I think) 7500 RPM 2Tb set up in the bios as a RAID member.

1=Seagate Barracuda 64 mb cache (I think) 7500 RPM 2Tb set up in the bios as a RAID member.

2=Seagate Barracuda 64 mb cache (I think) 7500 RPM 2Tb set up in the bios as a RAID member.

3=Seagate Barracuda 64 mb cache (I think) 7500 RPM 2Tb set up in the bios as a RAID member.

4=LG Super Multi Drive CD/DVD Read and Write drive.  Windows recognizes this drive.

5=Crucial 128 GB M4 SSD purchased about 18 months ago.  Windows recognizes this drive.  This is intended as a program-only drive.

Lastly, I'm using an old Dell keyboard, an older Logitech optical mouse and a Samsung 23 inch LED monitor.

The OS is Windows 7 Professional, SP-1.  It has Internet access, and I am using it for this plea for help.

This is my first RAID setup.  I evidently misinterpreted the ASUS instructions.  I successfully configured the BIOS to recognize ICH10R SATA ports, and the connected Seagate drives, as RAID members.  The BIOS shows them that way during boot-up.  I clearly did not understand how to add the RAID drivers prior to installing the OS.

Windows does not show the RAID array as drives.  In fact, Windows denies that the drives even exist.  The only drives that Windows recognizes are the Crucial SSD (designated as C:) and the CD/DVD drive (designated as D:).  Thumb drives that I insert are designated by Windows as E:.  I have been unable to load the RAID driver now that the OS is loaded.  I am able to get the .EXE file that takes me to the console that is intended to set up RAID, but it has no effect.  I have deleted those files and tried older and newer versions with the same effect.  The most recent drivers come within a ZIP file, and I can't get that to do anything.

Here are my main questions:

1.  Is there a way that will work to get the RAID controller to work after I have installed the OS?  If so, what do I need to delete to do so?

2.  Do I need to make changed in the BIOS?  Bear in mind that the BIOS already shows the four drives as being a RAID array.

3.  Do I need to reinstall Win 7 Pro?  I can do so, because we have not loaded any serious programs yet.

4.  If I need to reload the OS, what drivers should I install at the BIOS prompt?  (And what bios prompt is correct for this motherboard?)

Many thanks.  Matt Shumaker, Glendale, AZ.  mshumaker@q.com.  We have two other computers, so I can look at one while making changes to this one.

in-place upgrade RAID1 ICH10R to Win7?

I currently have a Vista x64 system running RAID1 on a ICH10R (P45) motherboard.  I would like to execute an in-place upgrade to Win7.

Is this possible?  Will the Win7 upgrade process either support ICH10R RAID disk driver or accept the driver via USB flash drive (e.g. F6 key)?

If I can get from here to there without rebuilding or re-installing *everything* I will be a VERY happy camper!  Thanks for your help, everyone!

Windows 8 unable to detect eSATA drive connected to Intel SATA Controller

I have an eSATA drive that cannot be used with Windows 8. The drive is detected by the computer BIOS, but not by Windows. If I use the in-Box sata driver (storahci.sys) the drive can be seen in Device Manager as "other Device" but is unusable. If I use the latest Intel driver, 11.6, it disapppears completely from Device Manager. It is however, detected by the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Application, but is listed as unknown and unusable. If I disconnect it, that is detected by the IRST Application. The drive Works fine in Windows 7. I have also tried several different eSATA cables and other comuters running Windows 8. No dice. Any ideas?

Why no X79 RAID support with Intel's RST(e) v11/v12 series drivers?

$
0
0

Many users with an X79 chipset RAID system are already using the Intel RST(e) v11 or v12 series drivers instead of the regular RSTe v3.x.x.xxxx ones, because the v11/v12 drivers obviously

  • are running rock stable with X79 RAID systems,
  • boost the X79 RAID performance and
  • give X79 RAID0 users the chance to get TRIM into their RAID array.

Only disadvantages:

  1. There are no F6 Intel RAID drivers v11/v12 available, which can be used by X79 chipset RAID users, who want to do a fresh install of Windows 8 in EFI mode.
  2. The driver installation from within an already running Windows OS has to be forced, because the DEV_2826 support is missing within the original iaStorAC.inf file.
  3. Unfortunately the RST Console software v11/v12 series cannot be installed at all due to the missing support of the "Intel(R) C600 Series Chipset SATA RAID Controller". Bad consequence: The popular feature "Write Back Caching", which gives RAID users a far better write performance, can not be enabled,

Since the original Intel RST(e) drivers of the v11 and v12 series do already support C600 Series Chipset SATA AHCI Controllers, it would be a good idea, if Intel would add the native support of the related SATA RAID Controllers as well.

Question:

What is the reason why the support of Intel's C600 Series Chipset SATA RAID Controllers is missing within the actual RST(e) driverpacks of the v11.x.x.xxxx and v12.x.x.xxxx series?

Hi.

Z77, Win7 x64.

After installing iata_cd.exe (11.6.0.1030), the IRST windows down't show up anymore. Just nothing happens!

Also, the Intel Control Center doesn't show the application anymore.

With 11.1.0.1106 all this worked.

What went wrong?

Driver for Mobile Intel HM86 Express Chipset

I recently changed OS from Win8 to Win7 professional 64 bit on my laptop and it tells me that I'm missing a driver for a "SM Bus Controller".

To my knowledge this should be part of the chipset driver. The laptop uses a "Mobile Intel HM86 Express Chipset" but I'm new to this stuff and wasn't able to find out which driver I need from the Intel download Center.

Can I just use the Intel Chipset Device Software for the regular Intel 8 Series chipsets or do I need something else for mobile chipsets

Set up Intel Rapid Start?

$

Hi,

So basically I have a HP envy 15 quad edition, I have a 1TB hard drive and a 24GB ssd for caching purposes. Something messed it up a few days ago and I had to reset the disk and finally got Rapid Storage to work, but every time I try to use Rapid Start, it says "your system does not appear to have Intel Rapid Start enabled' or something along those lines. The rapid start option is enabled in the BIOS.

When I enable Intel Rapid Storage it lets me choose if I want to allocate the whole drive to that or choose, it's between 22GB or 18.6GB, or custom. Should I choose 18.6 to leave space for Rapid Start? I'm not sure how it works or how to properly configure it. If anyone can help me figure this out, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Aimee

F6 driver for C220 SATA/AHCI controller Windows XP

$

Hi

I am trying to install windows XP on a Lenovo M93p which has an Intel 8 series C220 SATA/AHCI controller. To be able to do that I would need to press F6 during setup so that the harddrive can be found.

I have looked in the drivers download section of Lenovo.com and Intel.com, but I've only found F6 drivers for Intel Rapid Storage Technology compatible with Windows 7, Windows 2008 Server and Windows 8.

I already have windows 7 set up on it and the SATA operation is in AHCI mode so I would like to set up dual boot with Windows XP to test some serial communication failure with a sonar without having to change SATA Operation mode in the BIOS every time.

Thank you

No matter what OS I use, the Intel HD Sound Chipset tends to mute/cut sound below a certain threshold. Is there any way to turn this off WITHOUT being on Windows?

Serious issue with INTEL AHCI driver under XP

$

I am owner of mainboard with INTEL P67 chipset and i'm spending weeks already trying to solve UNPLEASANT issue with intel AHCI drivers for windows XP....

PROBLEM:

Under latest XP SP3 prof. with intel AHCI driver installed the SATA ports 1 to 5 with attached HDD >2TB behaves very strange.

Drives are detected in device manager, but no drive letters are assigned (cannot read drive in event viewer)!!!

When using `hot plug` feature of AHCI and connecting the HDD after OS startup, the drive is detected, drive letter assigned and drive looks fine.

I can accept even this behaviour, but in this condition write performance is about 1/5 and even this after writing few GB drops to 1MB and causes stability issues (blue screens etc.)

THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN IF THE DRIVE IS CONNECTED TO SATA0 PORT -  this port is 100% functional, but i have two DATA >2TB HDDs so i can't use them both together.

SUSPICIONS:

-hardware and BIOS should be fine, because everything works great under W7 (both modes) or under WXP in SATA mode with build in microsoft driver used... with different types of hardrives the behavior is the same, so it isn't HDD caused issue.

-to use >2TB HDD with XP i need 3rd party software, i tried more of them (acronis, paragon...) and it doesn't help (same behavior)

-i tried more version of intel AHCI driver for XP (from last 11.2.0.1006 to old 10.1.0.1008), and the behavior is the same

-i tried other versions of XP OS if it isn't problem here

-i tried some registry tweaks mostly associated with AHCI power managment and nothing helps

->>> so it looks sure like strange DRIVER ISSUE (prove me if i'm wrong), even stranger because SATA0 port is fine

RAID1 failure, somehow rebooted and 1 yrs worth of data missing

$

Hi all,

My Dell Studio XPS with 2 500GB drives in a pre-configured RAID1 array setup (Intel Matrix Storage Manager v8.5.0.1020) has failed just now in a bit of a bizarre way.   Any insights or DOs/DONTs would be much appreciated.

A year plus back one of the drives had stopped working and the RAID1 status was DEGRADED but still bootable.    Got the typical "Error Occurred(0)" for one of the member disks, the other being fine.   I'll admit I was lazy and had alternative backup solutions so didn't fix the problem.   Then of course the second disk apparently developed issues.

Yesterday the whole system failed to boot, but only once.   I power cycled the desktop and this time it did successfully boot into Win7.    But bizarrely enough, my entire file system only had the files stored up to April 2012, a year plus back.   I've rebooted several times and tried to sniff around in the CTRL-I BIOS manager for Intel Matrix Storage, but not wanting to mess with anything haven't tinkered too deeply.

My data was backed up except for the last two months, and I use sugarsync for most important files so those are secure.   But unfortunately I had my iphone fail last week too so before getting a replacement I downloaded the last six months worth of pictures to the desktop before getting the phone replaced, and this temporary storage folder wasn't synced/backedup.   This is the only missing data but is precious so I want to try and recover these pictures if I can.

Clearly this recent data is not visible on the current drive of the desktop.   I wonder if this is because of some failure of the metadata, and the data is in fact there.  Or alternatively if there's been some freak occurrence where the second, originally good disk where all the recent data had been written to failed, but in the process the first degraded disk started working again and I was able to boot into that drive -- but because that drive had been errored out for some time, it didn't have a copy of the more recent data.   THis is all uninformed speculation.

Can anyone recommend how I might be able to try solving the issue here?   I see there are options in the BIOS array manager to "Reset Disks to Non-RAID".  Would that be recommended, and then try to find the files individually within those drives?   Or is doing this potentially putting the recent data at risk?

Any other steps you can recommend?   Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi

I have a HP pavilion 15 Notebook PC15.  It came with Windows 8 and I have rolled it back to Windows 7 by doing a fresh installation.

Machine data is as follows (as best as i could get using different utilities)

Intel (R) Core (TM) i%-3230M CPU @ 2.60Hz

Motherboard Manufacturer. Hewlett Packard

Motherboard product. 1970

Motherboard Version 95.1A

Motherboard Serial. PDPWR018J5B698

Intel Chipset ID Utility returns the Chipset as Intel(R) 6 Series Chipset

I had a few hassles with drivers but now am at the point where i cant find drivers to get the following working.

Ethernet Controller

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

Video Controller

All these have a yellow exclamation mark next to them in Device Manager.

The two USB ports on the left side done work, however the one on the right does.

I would appreciate if anyoine can point me in the direction of the correct drivers.

Thanks in Advance

Intel RST: no Accelerate button/tab available

$

Hello,

I experience problems using Intel SRT technology: the Accelerate button never shows despite many tests,

here is my config:

i7 2600, MSI Z68MA-ED55 mb, 8Gb ram, Win8 64Bits

Storage (sorted by order in bios) =

1s drive = SSD system drive= 60Gb Gskill phoenix Pro

2nd = SSD used as cachedisk= Samsung 840 (basic) 120Gb

3rd = HDD for Storage: Samsung Spinpoint F1 502IJ 500Gb

I manually moved my Bios from ahci to Raid mod

All drivers are up to date, including my SSD firmwares

I use iSRT v12.8

What I'm Intending to do:

I want to use my 60Gb Phoenix pro as a system drive and my Samsung 840 SSD as a cache drive for my 502IJ HDD, all drives are detected in SRT, but the accelerate button doesn't show,

What I've tried:

-I deleted the partition of my 840 SSD (everything left as unallocated space), uninstalled SRT and reinstalled it

-I installed an older version of SRT (v.12.0 if I'm correct)

-I checked my disks with diskpart, they are all seen as Raid drives, I also checked my registry, I have a iastorV forlder with Start entry set to 0, and no msahci folder remaining (I suspected a conflict, none apparent)

-I both plugged my SSD and HDD on Sata 2 ports, grey ones

-I switched my PC back to IDE and to Raid again, to force drivers reinstallation

-I reseted my bios to default settings and Raid enabled

-I tried both boot orders, SSD first, HDD second, and revert

Possible issues:

-My system was set to ahci at the beginning, drivers conflict? I made my best to reinstall drivers after changing to Raid, here is a screenshot of my device manager and registry:

http://imageshack.us/f/826/70q2.png/

-My HDD is a dynamic drive while my two SSDs are basic drives

None of my tests became relevant, the Acceleration button still doesn't show. I am aware that going on a fresh install of Windows with Raid configuration active in bios right from the start could be an option but I'd rather found the problem for my own understanding ^^ (sorry for my bad english, I'm french)

Intel Storage Technology disappeared from my computer. What now?

Hello,

My Intel Rapid Storage Technology software is missing on my Lenovo, Windows 8.

The whole problem as I noticed began with a start-up message "Intel Rapid Storage Technology is not running". I then began doing a little research on this topic and found out, that I have to install the latest driver to the software. I downloaded it allright, the installation however did not go as expected, because of an error during the installation process. It wouldn't be that big of disappointment if not that I shortly after the installation failure couldn't find the Intel Rapid Storage Technology icon on the Task Manager... and I was aware of its existence there before the driver installation!

I would like to restore the software. Please help. And sorry, english isn't my first language btw.

RAID Array split into 2 arrays?!

Hello all,

This is my first post, and unfortunately it is because of an issue :-(. After rebooting a company server last night it would not boot. I'll give the whole history on this so hang in there but I'm sure one of the details below will be important in resolving my issue:

Upon booting the server the RAID array showed all 3 - 1TB drives (in a RAID 5 array) as non-member disks. I called Intel and ASUS and didn't get anywhere with either of them (still waiting on a call back from them and I called 8am this morning).

I found a nice forum where I found a process that I followed:

Power off the server and disconnect each drive (make sure each cable and drive is labeled so they go back to the correct drive).

Turn the server back on and disable RAID in the BIOS.

Reboot.

Re-Enable RAID in the BIOS.

Power Off.

Plug the first drive back in and turn it back on.
Once the drive was recognized power off again.

Plug in the second drive and turn it back on.

Once the drive was recognized power off again.

Plug in the third drive and turn it back on.

This was supposed to resolve the issue.

The first two drives connected right away, on the third drive it said it looked like it belonged to the array should I add it.(still in the BIOS utility). Naturally I said yes and to my delight the server booted.

Now for the issue that I am having. The last drive seems to have added itself to its own array and the original array has downgraded itself saying the third drive is missing. I've attached a screen shot of the issue to help with the visual. I want to get the drive back to the original array, but am afraid of the server being decommissioned long term while it re-builds, or worse losing some data by making a simple mistake.

I did read through the online PDF for the Intel Matrix Storage Console and their online troubleshooting guide but have not found this specific issue addressed. I'm hoping someone can guide me through the answer so I can resolve it tonight.

The screen shot shows model numbers, and drives attached. Please let me know if you need any additional info!

What do verification errors mean in RAID 1 (mirrored) ?

$

0

Every time I run the Verification it finds "verification errors".  (128, 77, 26 the last three times out)

I have 2 300 GB (10,000 RPM) drives set up as RAID 1.

Given that there is no parity, what do these "verification errors" mean?

Is one of my drives beginning to fail?

How can I troubleshoot this further?

P.S. The general answer for this should be included in the standard Help for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application.
