Install Windows 7 with Intel RST

$

I have a new Toshiba laptop that came configured with a 32 GB SSD as cache for a 500 GB HDD. I want to replace Windows 8 with Windows 7.

I am running into problems during the install. I first tried to install like normal. The files copied and whatnot. The laptop rebooted, but froze during the Windows logo animation at startup. I tried to boot with safemode, but the laptop again froze--when loading "disk.sys." This is when I realized I might need to provide drivers during the installation process, since Windows sees the SSD+HDD as a RAID 0 array. I did a new installation, using the drivers from f6flpy-x64.zip loaded onto a USB stick. The installer found the drivers, so I assumed that was that. Unfortunately, after the installer finished copying files, I received an error indicating that a required driver could not be found, and the installation was terminated. I found this odd, since the install had previously "completed" without any additional driver provided.

Can somebody please advise me how to resolve this?

RAID 1 SSD has frequent verifying and rebuilding on reboot

Dell/Alienware Aurora R4, setup with Kingston HyperX 240GB SSD x 2 (RAID 1) and Windows 7 x64.  Brand new installation.

Using Intel RST enterprise 3.2.0.1126.

Upon startup, the Intel RST Option ROM shows all RAID volumes as NORMAL (OK).

Upon entering into Windows and logging in, the RST tray icon show with the circle until the service starts (Which by default is Automatic delayed).

Upon RST running, HALF THE TIME, the icon will show hour glass and start the verifying and repairing phase on the SSD RAID1.

At the completion of the rebuild, the Parity Error and Blocks with media errors are both ZERO (0).

I can shut down and restart and it will be fine.  Then the next time, it does the same thing again.  As long as I let the repair process complete, the boot-time option ROM always shows NORMAL for the RAID status.

What could the problem be?  I've setup a jillion computers and notebooks with RST and RAID and never have had a problem like this.

Thanks for any advice.

Intel Rapid Start working correctly?

Hello,

I've got a bunch of questions regarding Intel Rapid-Start-Technology. I'll try to explain my problems step by step.

My girlfriend bought a Samsung NP540U3C Ultrabook. I replaced the HDD with a 120 GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD and reinstalled Windows 8. The Ultrabook has a second SSD (24 GB mSATA) built-in. The 24 GB SSD used to have two partitions. A 3 GB partition and a 19 GB partition. The 19 GB partition has been used for Express Cache (mSATA SSD buffering I/O of HDD). Since I built in the the 120 GB 840 Evo the Express Cache partition hasn't been needed any longer, so I've had it deleted. The 3 GB partition was used for Intel Rapid Start I think. Which made me  wonder because I thought the Rapid Start partition has to be at least a size equeals to the size of RAM installed. Anyways, I deleted that partition, too. So the 24 GB mSATA SSD had been completely empty. I created a new GPT partiton, used all 24 GB straight through. I wanted to create a partition for Intel Rapid Start again. Maybe I'll upgrade the RAM to 12 GB, so I'll be fine with the size of the partition.

When attempting to set the ID of the GPT partition as described in the online manuals "set id=84 override" I've got the error message "The specified type is not in the correct format".

1.) So I used Google search, found a lot of people are telling that the error is because of the GPT partition. Is that correct?

I'll then tried to use the command "set id=D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593" which at least didn't give me any errors. I could install Intel Rapid Start Technology service and I can access it from the system tray (Windows 8 64 Bit) and set the timer.

2.) But the Windows partition manager doesn't tell me it is a "hibernation partition". Maybe that is because of the GPT partition, too?

I don't know whether Intel Rapid Start is working correctly or not.

3.) Are there any command line tools to verify a working status?

When closing the notebook (susped) it goes off, then turns on again and then after a few seconds turns completely off again (Intel Rapid Start timer set to 0).

4.) From my understandig that is the way it is supposed to work, but I don't know whether Intel Rapid Start is really working or not. I think the notebook goes into S3 (suspend to RAM) when closing it and then turns on again to go into a advanced suspend (S4?) to write the content of the RAM to the Rapid Start partition.

What is the point of that anyways? Isn't that similar to hibernation state? Couldn't one just create a drive on the second SSD (mSATA 24 GB) and force Windows to write the hibernation file to that drive? What's the point of using Intel Rapid Start instead? Besides the fact that the user isn't seeing the partition and can not missuse that partition I don't see any advantages of Intel Rapid Start Technology.

Thanks for any help on this.

Regards, Rod

Unable to install Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Hello Everyone,

I am having problem with Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I am going to describe my problem briefly from the start.

Here's My Problem:

I have a Dell inspiron 14z 5423 model ultrabook with Windows 7 Home Premium. It was going fine when suddenly the system crashed   . Every time I started it, a blue screen flashes and restarted. I tried everything to maintain it. I googeld for every solution but could not repair it. Unfortunately I had to Fresh Install the OS. And another BAD LUCK , I only tried to format and delete the C: drive ( C: drive was about 250 GB and deleted it to create another partitions from it ) but My WHOLE partition got DELETED and MERGED into a single Partition. Fortunately I managed to recover my Very Important Data. ( End of Part 1)

Now later I installed Win 7 Professional.

Previously there was IRST installed and seemed to be working fine. Now I am trying to install IRST in my ultrabook but could not do so. Unknowingly I installed the OS with the SATA Mode: AHCI instead of Intel Smart ...(RAID). Now When I try to change the SATA mode to RAID then BSOD flashes and restarts. I also tried the following technique :

http://www.overclock.net/t/1227636/how-to-change-sata-m...

But could not get it working.

I want to Install ISRT on my ultrabook and don't want to reinstall win 7 with RAID mode enabled for this.

Please help me sort out this problem.

Rapid Storage Technology Event ID and Email Notifications

I just installed the latest RST for Windows 8.  I went to configure the email notifications and found that the program does not support SSL connections for SMTP servers.  I don't know of any mainstream email providers that allow unsecured SMTP connections on port 25.  This seriously needs to be addressed.

That said, I decided to create some monitors for the Event Log through my MSP platform.  The issue is, I cannot seem to locate a list of Event IDs generated by Intel RST.  I only want to monitor for specific events, instead of being spammed by non-critical event log entries.

Any help with the above mentioned list would be greatly appreciated.

Two RST Icons in SystemTray - One Working, One Not Working

$

I was having problems with one of the 11.x releases of Rapid Storage Technology Driver, where the service would not load (as indicated by the system tray icon).  I went back to an earlier 11.x release that was known to work fine, and the issue went away for some time.

Recently, I noticed the RST driver was up to 12.x, so I upgraded to the newest 12.x version.

Unfortunately, I now have two RST icons in my system tray.

One which says "Intel RST service is not running", with a blue circle over the icon, and the other which says, "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" with a green checkmark on the icon.

If I open the one with the blue circle, I get an error: "Intel Rapid Storage Technology is trying to connect to the service."  The error does not go away until I close it.

If I open the one with the green checkmark, I'm taken directly to the Intel Rapid Storage Technology interface, and it says "Your system is functioning normally."

So, why do I have two?

How do I get rid of the old (non-working) one?

All I did was upgrade over the old driver as I've always done in the past, and I've never had this happen before.

Also, in the Programs and Features section of Control Panel, there is only one entry for Intel Rapid Storage Technology, and it is for the newer (working) 12.x version.

Windows 7 x64.

New Desktop - getting RAID1 started

$

I believe I need to do more to completely install "Intel Rapid Storage Technology"  Please advise.

Reason I am concerned is that my current HP Pavilion Elite e9280t desktop computer has an icon in the system tray for "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" where I can select "Show Storage System Information" and similar. I can also access this via [All Programs]

But my new HP Pavilion HPEh9-1215tHP desktop computer does not have this icon available yet, nor does it have anything in [All Programs] that seems to fit the bill.

BACKGROUND:

I ordered my new desktop with a 3TB HDD and a 1TB HDD.  HP did not offer RAID1 as an option, and after HP verified it for me - they
told me that I could to do it myself upon delivery.  So, before doing anything else, I made a set of Recovery DVDs and purchased two new
"identical" 3TB drives, and replaced the two original drives.  I changed the BIOS and I did the CTRL- i  thing which resulted in a 3TB
RAID1 system.   After doing a Factory Reset with the Recovery DVDs, the desktop now says that it has a 3TB RAID1 running Windows 7 Professional.

QUESTIONS:  is there something else I need to do to assure RAID1 is going to work properly?  I'd like the Intel RST icon mentioned above.  How do I get that installed on the new desktop?

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Online specs say the motherboard is Pegatron IPMMB-FM
Formosa.  Intel Z75 chipset.

Purchased with upgrade to 16GM memory

600 Watt power supply

2 optical drives

3 monitors (with only one attached so far)

3 drive bays for hard discs, and it came with one 3TB and one 1TB drive and one
empty drive bay.

Windows 7 Professional

The desktop PC was purchased in August 2013 and is brand new and has not been used yet, other than as mentioned above and connecting it to my home network and internet access..

Hi,

I’ve a Lenovo “2555DQF” with an “Intel C216” chipset, Windows server 2003 Release 2. I’m looking for raid driver, but I’m not able to find any drivers for earliest windows 7.  Post bellow give a way for a new install, but my system works properly. I need to do a RAID-1, but for that, I need to build my RAID and clone my harddisk with Windows Server 2003 R2. But to activate raid  I need to install driver. Do you have a way to install driver bellow with windows server 2003 ? Or do you have an other solution to resolve this issue ?

intel HD 2000

Hi guys, seems a little silly i know, and i understand there is a slim possibility my theory here will be correct, but none the less, i am here asking.

Will a Mobile Intel® QM87 Chipset fit in the socket of my existing Intel HD 2000 on my old Dell Vostro 1520. It may be also worth noting i am running an intel core duo (duel core 2.4GHz) with 3 GB of ram on win 7, trying to make this, what was my first computer gifted to me by my parents who clearly had no idea what i would be using this computer for, one Christmas morning about 3 years ago. Yes it still works, yes it still runs word, and the interwebs but it really doesnt do much more than that. What i want it to do, is at very least basic videogames, i mean, common 800x600, running World Of Tanks on absolute minimum graphics, at 7 fps??? not playable. Yes i have done everything, and my most recent act was to format the hdd, and reinstall windows. yes it sped up rather significantly, i now achieve 9 fps!!!! still, cant really play it. So, here i am, i have a new, better desktop i built my self, but every now and then, its nice to go to the lake, or even have something for when i am swapping parts in my pc because i accidentally melted an I7 (not that it has ever happened, but minor stuff like an hdd dieing on me and needing to get a new one).

encase you couldn't pull my cryptic question out of that, here it is nice and simple, can i put a Mobile Intel® QM87 Chipset into the place of my Intel HD 2000 graphics chipset, without issues? (we are well passed warranty on this pc, iv had every individual piece in my hand, including the graphics chipset)))

Add chipset driver to Windows Installation

How can you add SATA driver to Windows 7 64 bit installation ?

The problem is a freeze during Windows 7 64 bit installation loading disk.sys when booting in UEFI mode. Apparently it´s not a problem when installing Windows 8 in UEFI mode. So how can the same correction be done manually to Windows 7 setup files ?

The computer manufacture provides this driver for download: AHCI_Intel_11.7.1.1001_W8x64

mSATA SSD cache with QM67 chipset laptop

I want to speedup my Lenovo X220.

Don't want to reinstall all in a new SSD for costs and opportunity reasons (I haven't a MS Win7 installer DVD was installed OEM).

So better option it's just add some small mSATA SSD such as 40-60GB and use it as HDD cache.

Problem is what can I use?

Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) can be the solution, but I can't find if will work or not with my chipset.

Intel declare work only on Z68 or 77 chipset, but also SSD 311 appear to be working with QM67 in some Intel portals (UK) and not in others.

Lenovo allow to download the driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology (SRT) for QM67, SRT it's part of RST, but can't understand if that will automatically enable it in my system.

Please can someone give me advice?

good day

I would like to ask whether there is any problem or issue This update patch for Intel HM 55 Express, because it is the only driver with a PCI driver under Windows 8 but going about half, it is possible to accommodate the company intel just released a patch fix driver? Intel Rapid Storage Driver 11.2.0.1006

Hi,

Building a new multi-platform image and cannot get the 11.2.0.1006 to install automatically. I used DISM to inject the driver and confirmed it is in the C:\Windows\Inf folder. However, Windows 7 defaults to the 9.3.0.1011 version. I can manually install it if I force the issue and point it directly to the driver, but it won't recognize the newer driver if I have it search automatically. Need it to be able to find and install it on its own after the image is laid down. Anybody else seeing this or have any ideas for a resolution?

Thanks!

Identifying chipset used in computer and finding chipset specifications

$

0

How can I determine the chipset used in a computer, find the specifications (i.e., chips in the chipset) and the specifications for the particular chip(s) I am interested in.

The computer involved is a Dell XPS 8300 running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am particularly interested in the SATA controller, which the Windows Device Manager says is "Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller".

Now, I assume the chipset is the first part of that (Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset) and the SATA part of the chipset is the rest (SATA AHCI Controller).

I have searched the Intel website for the chipset based on various parts of the name shown in the device manager. I found a page on chipsets, but I can't tell which (if any) is mine - or, for that find what chips are in the chipsets.

I know that this computer can handle four SATA devices, but I'm not sure what data transfer speed they can handle.

Thanks.

intel rst stopped working (11.2.0.1006)

I have a windows 7 64 pc where I've installed Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (11.2.0.1006)  The configuration has to mirror two disks

to day I suddenly accidentally discovered the raid configuration stopped working.

the icon in the system tray looked a little different then before.

I'm very disappointed in this tool:

I expect it to copy my files, and if it stops for any reason, it has to warn me in an annoying way. (but it didn't)

computer management showed me one of the two disk is offline. it says:

"The disk is offline because it has a signature collision with another disk that is online"

having a problem is one thing, solving is something completely different

I've tried to open Intel® Rapid Storage Technology, by dubble clicking on the system tray icon. the user interface didn´t start

and i tried to open it with 'control panel' and 'hardware and sounds'

in the taskmanager under 'services' there is a item called IAStorDataMgrSvr (running), under Process is an item IAStorIcon.exe *32

what triggered this malfunction? and (after reinstalling) do I have to check this program everyday in the future?

I have no idea when it stopped working (because it didn't warn me), could it something to do with an bios update?

how do i get this configuration up and running? do i have to buy a third diskdrive or can i configure a raid volume with (at least) one filled drive?

is there a newer version which is more stable and does work with my configuration?

i hope you can help me questions.

VT-d hardware support on chipsets Z87 and H87

$

Hello,

I'm confused about VT-d support on chipsets Z87 (DH82Z87) and H87 (DH82H87).

This document Compatibility with Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) (http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-030922.htm) specifies that chipset Z87 (DH82Z87) supports VT-d:

The following Intel® Desktop Boards support Intel VT with Directed I/O:
ChipsetDesktop Board H87, Q87, Z87 - DH87MC, DH87RL, DQ87PG, DZ87KLT-75K

and the chipset product page here http://ark.intel.com/products/75013/Intel-DH82Z87-PCH says:

"Intel® Virtualization Technology for Directed I/O (VT-d) ‡ No".

Please confirm if this chipset supports this virtualization feature - perhaps there is only partial support? This issue is valid for H87 and older chipsets: (Z77, H77), ARK lists them as not supportting VT-d, but that motherboard support page lists them as supported.

This confusion is further amplified since some 3rd part motherboard manufacturers list their Z87 boards as supporting VT-d, while other manufacturers claim that only boards with Q87, Q77 chipsets have this feature.

Support for this feature, VT-d, has the greatest influence in my buying decision, please shed some light into this.
