Intel 7/C216 Chipset USB 3.0 not working right (not recognizing memory stick, external USB 3.0 drives)

hi folks,

I have a Dell M6700 Workstation running Windows 7 Pro 64bit, with the 1.0.10.255 USB 3.0 driver last updated on 2/3/2014 and it seems the USB 3.0 ports are not recognizing some USB 3.0 devices (Sandisk Glider 3.0 memory stick)  saying  "one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".   I've uninstalled the driver and installed it repeatedly, sometimes in works with the Sandisk Glider, but most times it does not.  Likewise, I seem to have same issues with some external USB 3.0 Seagate and WD drives, sometimes being recognized, sometimes not, sometimes working at 2.0 speeds.

Is there any way to replace the *physical* USB 3.0 port, or is it tightly integrated with the i7/C216 chipset motherboard?

Is this a physical USB issue, a motherboard issue, a Sandisk Glider 3.0 issue?     It seems the Sandisk Glider and all external 3.0 storage drives work fine on more modern laptops that I have so I believe the memory stick and USB storage devices can be safely excluded from the issue.

Likewise, I have the same "does not recognize" message coming up through my trusty old Dell docking station, in that I cannot connect to the Sandisk Glider 3.0 or storage drives, none at all, or in the best case scenario, only at USB 2.0 speeds.

Are there any other options other than replacing this amazing laptop which has been serving me very well for some 4+ years now?  (I was hoping to buy an external device say maybe the eSTATA to USB 3.0 or so connector, to bypass things, but not sure what physical combination there is, with this older motherboard, to achieve USB 3.0 speeds (vs the 2.0 speeds of some 20mb/sec)

many thanks,

Cosmin
