I have a 5 x 2TB disk RAID 5 array that is nearing capacity. I am trying to figure out if I can replace the disks one by one with larger 4 or 6TB drives and then grow the array/expand the volume. I found this link that shows which controllers support 'Capacity expansion', and I believe my board would support it as I have a Z68 chipset which I believe uses a PCH controller. But before I start dropping money on replacement drives, I just want to make sure my understanding is correct as I'd hate to waste money and not be able to accomplish my goal in the end!
To be complete, the actual mobo I have is a gigabyte z68x-ud3h-b3
Can anyone confirm if my board/chipset does support capacity expansion? And that if I swapped out each drive with something larger (one at a time with rebuilds between), I would indeed be able to grow my volume?
