My new 6 Gb/s HDD shows up as Generation 2 in Intel Rapid Storage Technology?

I may be way over my head in this forum but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere else. My new 6 Gb/s HDD shows up as Generation 2 in Intel Rapid Storage Technology. How do I check my HDD's actual transfer rate or check to see if my motherboard or chipset is limiting the transfer rate. Any help will greatly appreciated.
