My custom built computer is based on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Intel P35 ATX (rev. 2.1) and a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz) Quad Core processor. I requested RAID 1 as a feature when I ordered it.
I had a RAID 1 array based on IRST running under XP/Pro as my data storage disk drive. It was first composed of two 477 Gb WD Caviar (WDC WD5000AAKS-00A7B0) hard disks. One drive failed and I was sent a 610 Gb (WD6400AAKS-00E4A0) to substitute for the failed drive.
I have moved on to Windows 7/Pro x64. After reading more about what RAID 1 can and cannot do, I've decided not to implement under Windows 7.
1) Do I need to do anything to undo the RAID 1 to guarantee stable performance by these two hard disks?
I have not knowingly installed IRST under Windows 7. Computer Management reports that I am currently using a Microsoft driver (6.1.7600.16385) dated 6/21/2006.
2) If I do have to undo the RAID 1, what steps should I take so that I do not suffer data loss on the drive?
thank you,
baumgrenze
