How can I determine the chipset used in a computer, find the specifications (i.e., chips in the chipset) and the specifications for the particular chip(s) I am interested in.
The computer involved is a Dell XPS 8300 running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am particularly interested in the SATA controller, which the Windows Device Manager says is "Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller".
Now, I assume the chipset is the first part of that (Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset) and the SATA part of the chipset is the rest (SATA AHCI Controller).
I have searched the Intel website for the chipset based on various parts of the name shown in the device manager. I found a page on chipsets, but I can't tell which (if any) is mine - or, for that find what chips are in the chipsets.
I know that this computer can handle four SATA devices, but I'm not sure what data transfer speed they can handle.
Thanks.
