Windows 7 booted via USB 3: BSOD crashes

I have a windows 7 installation on an external USB drive.

Using the Intel USB 3 driver causes massive problems.

If I simply install the USB 3 driver, the system does not even boot up any longer.

If I use the device manager to use only the necessary parts of the driver, the system crashes when it returns from suspend-to-ram.

the BSOD is pretty generic. I would like to upload a picture of the screen, but jpg and png cause a "That image type is forbidden." error?!

The system is a lenovo thinkPad T450
