Win 10 Ent x64 fully updated on Z97 Chipset. Lastest Intel RST drivers 14.8.
Previously Intel RAID0 array with 3x500GB mechanical drives. Not crucial drives so any slowness may not have been noticed. One of the drives started to grow bad sectors so I removed it and reconfigured a new RAID0 array with 4x500GB mechanical drives (all identical model). Initially configured as "write back" cache.
I was astonished how slow putting back the files onto the new array was - basically about 60MB/s for large files (videos). A bare single drive manages about 90MB/s!!
Disabling any cacheing at all in windows device manager gets writes of about 90GB/s (i.e. write back cacheing is worse than none at all). Turning on windows cacheing in device manager gets about 150MB/s regardless of whether the Intel RST cache mode is off, read only or write through. In other words, it appears that windows is manageing the cacheing and the Intel RST options do nothing except that write back is badly broken. Going back to driver version 14.6 and another which was 13.x (I forgot to make a note) made no difference.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a fix?
Thanks
