Hi all,
I have noticed an issue / incompatibility between the Toshiba R50-B (PSSG2A-00P013) controller and Intel SSDs (535, 730) which I was hoping to get some assistance with please.
The problem is that when installing one of those SSDs into the specified laptop, the laptop runs fine until installing the Intel RST driver.
Before installing RST, the driver for the AHCI controller is a "Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller" with a windows driver, and windows (Windows 7 x64 SP1) works fine.
After you install the latest (or earlier) Intel RST driver (or the Toshiba provided RST driver) and reboot, windows may run for anywhere from 30-180sec, before, from the appearance, windows "loses connection" to the hard drive. You can click on start or a couple of windows, but after a few clicks it just says not responding. It is like windows is still running but totally has totally lost connection to the hard drive, and then eventually (after approx. 1-3min) bluescreens with an 0x000000F4 error.
The error occurs the same in safe mode.
The issue does not occur if you put use any spindle disk in the laptop; it only happens with Intel SSDs (I haven't tried other brands yet). I like using Intel SSDs and I'd prefer not to change.
I have repeated the process with 100% reproduction on 4 laptops, using the various intel SSDs. It doesn't matter if you clone the original Toshiba hdd to the ssd, or install windows from scratch; the moment you install the intel RST driver, you've got anywhere from 60-180 sec before windows "notices" and then eventually bluescreens. You can even clone the original Toshiba spindle drive to the SSD, boot into windows off the SSD and quickly go into device manager and uninstall the driver and tell it to reboot, and get it working that way.
I roll out quite a few of these laptops and this current i7-5500 generation is the first time this is happening. Are Intel SSDs simply incompatible with something Toshiba has done to the chipset?
Any ideas?
